If Israel really attacks Iran this year, it – and the Americans – will be more dotty than their enemies think. True, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a crackpot, but then so is Avigdor Lieberman, who is apparently the Israeli Foreign Minister. Maybe the two want to do each other a favour.

The war drums against Iran are beating ever louder. The new embargo on Iranian oil, to come into force on July 1, is only the latest in a long list of measures imposed by US and EU imperialism. It bans all new oil contracts with Iran, and cuts off all existing deals. Also, all of the Iranian central bank’s European assets are to be frozen. We are told that the sanctions are designed to weaken the regime and “force Iran back to the negotiating table” over its nuclear programme. This is clearly nonsense:

TWO ASSAILANTS on a motorcycle attached magnetic bombs yesterday to the car of an Iranian university professor working at a key nuclear facility, killing him and wounding two others, a semiofficial news agency reported.
The attack in Tehran strongly resembles earlier killings of scientists working on the country’s controversial nuclear program.
The bomb explosion killed Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan, a chemistry expert and a director of the Natanz uranium enrichment facility in central Iran, the semiofficial Fars news agency reported.

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iran has not arrested any suspect involved in assassination of the master student so far, said Iranian Judiciary Spokesman Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejei.
"As far as I know, no one involved in the terrorist attack has been captured so far," he told reporters in a press conference on Monday.
Assailants shot dead Dariush Rezaei-Nejad, an Iranian electronics' master student at Tehran's Khajeh Nassir University and wounded his wife as they waited for their child outside a Tehran kindergarten on Saturday.
